Family Day

So glad restaurants finally put lids on cups for kids!

Waiting sooo patiently for b'sghetti.

Amelia trying HARD not to smile for dad! Stinker.

Yanked that hamburger right out of his hands!

Tuesdays are our Family Days. It's really easy to let them blend in with every other day, in the name of Getting Things Done, but every so often we reign ourselves back in and focus on having fun and relaxing together. Granted, it can be a bit tricky simple because of the amount of rain we have in  the Pacific Northwest, but that just means we have to be more creative. This Tuesday we took the kids out to a local restaurant, Pig n' Pancake. This place has been here, I'm pretty sure, forever. It doesn't boast the best, or latest and greatest, but I do like their pancakes far better than those of a certain pancake chain. David and I "regularly" (as in the once or twice a year that we go) get what's called a chicken fried skillet, which is a chicken fried steak on hash browns and scrambled egg,  with country gravy and toast. I used to think that sounded so gross, until I tried it - so good! The restaurant sports an 80's vibe with mauve dishes and funky walls - maybe they can call it "vintage" now.  They could use an update, but it probably won't get one any time soon. I think we watch too many Restaurant Impossible type shows, haha! They have steady quality, and a steady patronage, so I'm pretty sure the owner is cool with things as they are. Amelia devoured her pancakes, eggs, nibbled her bacon (much to Aidan's joy - he got to finish it), and moved on to Alan's hamburger! Owen had wanted noodles from the time he came downstairs in the morning, and was so thrilled to get spaghetti, he had enough to take home and finish the next day - more happiness for him! It was a lot of fun, we hadn't eaten in a restaurant for quite a while, just had Chinese take out (at home) and occasional fast food (at home). Mostly we cook at home, but it's a lot of fun to take every one out - the employees are usually nervous to see so many kids, but it doesn't take them long to realize how well-behaved our kids are.  Afterward, Alan spent the allowance he's been saving on a skateboard. Not sure where he's going to practice, but we'll figure something out. Then we just went home and watched a movie and had a supper of... chips and dip. Everyone was still full from lunch!
This morning Emma finally, after eating many, many, apples, lost a tooth that has been loosening ever so slowly. She was beginning to despair of it ever coming out, but didn't want any of us pulling on it, silly girl. Well, off to get some much needed cleaning done, so I can finish and post more projects while I'm on a roll!!

  1. What a wonderful family day! It's not often we take our girls out to lunch either so when we do it's a real treat and they really love it. Love your new banner--it's brilliant! x

  3. I feel like it's been ages since I've been able to take the time to sit at my computer and browse...let alone post. Reading your latest posts has me feeling homesick! I wish so much we lived closer together! Cousins playing together, growing up beside one another, sisters able to share in their discoveries, joys, even trials! sigh. I LOVE your kitchen cabinet! I love getting projects finished! And I'm so glad you all took time to be together!! I love you all!
